Communication Confidence

The confidence to deliver communications is not an afterthought — confidence is second only to content.

The client

A nationwide consumer awareness association.

The issue

A new acting chair of the association was appointed after the unexpected resignation of her long tenured predecessor. Since the resignation was sudden in nature, the organization felt that the new chair would benefit by 1:1 training in order to prepare for the pressures of the new position.

The strategy

From our experience in executive coaching, we knew that the new acting chair was feeling understandable stress. We focused on helping her identify challenges as well as opportunities and zeroed in on the importance of clearly communicating organizational priorities during such a disruptive time. Her focus on this helped her make decisions that were informed by what was best for the association and its employees.

The outcome

Due in part to the confidence the chair projected in making decisions during the turbulence of the transition period, the association weathered the storm—and the chair was elected to a full term at the next annual meeting.
